Noted in Good Morning Silicon Valley: “[Warren] just kept spitting into a little receptacle, and then we FedExed it. Not very elegant.” – An assistant to Warren Buffett describes the process by which the billionaire investor submitted his DNA for a test that finally, definitively proved he was not related to songwriter Jimmy Buffett (and [...]

I must say I have been disappointed in the online coverage for the election from the main sites — newspapers and radio/TV websites. Ireland.com has taken forever to get results up, despite having some really nice interactive maps for constituencies. Both Ireland.com and RTE.ie made it very hard to actually FIND information — for example [...]

With all boxes open: Ahern 36% Brady 3% Costello 12% Donohue 10% Fitzpatrick 5% Gregory 13% McDonald 9% Mckenna 6% Perry 2% Now it will be down to transfers. SF usually do not do well getting transfers as they admitted themselves on radio yesterday so this must have them worried. Many commentators think transfers will [...]

Results so far: Ahern 34% Costello 14.6% Gregory 13.6% Donohoe 9% McDonald 7.6% Even on early results, it’s a very good show for newcomer Paschal Donohoe from FG to be polling ahead of SF’s darling Mary Lou (apparently called Tiochaidh Spice in Belfast) right in what would in the past have been considered a good [...]

Well, I am not likely to! But I cannot believe the Bertiemobile that just drove down my street was blasting THAT Fleetwood Mac song, used as the Clinton campaign song… Then they also blare out “Don’t forget to vote Taoiseach Number One tomorrow” (oh the joys of being in Bertie’s constituency). Hmmm, trying to remind [...]

While writing this week’s column, I found this in the Irish Times archive — written in 2002, well before the kerfuffle that led to the topic becoming a national issue and the establishment of the committee set up to examine the issue for [...]

Just back after a very short trip over to Valencia to talk to Oracle’s Big Cheese Mr Ellison, who held court for about two hours on his yacht. Of course he’s out in Spain as part of the preparation for the America’s Cup where they’ve not had much luck in recent races. The New Zealand [...]

Macintalk has an interesting benchmarking test of a range of Mac browsers (I didn’t realise there are more browsers for the Mac than any other OS; I had never even heard of some of these). All tested on a 24″ Intel Mac with 2GB of RAM. Their modified Safari browser (NB not the normal Safari [...]

Gizmodo has an item stating that Firefox will be coming to a mobile screen near you… though apparently not anytime soon as the project is described as “long term”. I’ll be interested to see if they tweak it into a mobile most-have.
