So, in a series of searches at the supposedly high security Portlaoise prison, police found hooch, needles and drugs, mobile phones, and a budgie.

A budgie, believed to have been smuggled into the jail by a female visitor who concealed the bird internally in her body, is understood to have belonged to a prisoner serving a long-term jail sentence.

What?! I find that hard to believe (not to mention very uncomfortable). And how in the world did prison guards possibly miss the presence and sound of a screeching budgie? Anyone who has owned one knows they are not exactly melodious canaries. The mind boggles.

Update: And a second budgie found as well. Wonder where they will go now?
